What do you want from me?

In the drive to increase customer engagement, many startups — marketing and growth teams, ask their customers to do many things. They might ask them to sign up for a newsletter, follow them on social media, or leave a review. But what if these requests are not actually helpful to the customer? What if they don’t understand why the company is asking them to do these things?

This is the problem — -> “what do you want from me?” theme. When a customer is bombarded with requests, they don’t know what is important to the company. They don’t know what the company is trying to achieve by asking them to do these things. And as a result, they are less likely to comply.

So what can startups do to improve their customer engagement strategies? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Be clear about your goals. What do you want to achieve by asking your customers to do these things? Are you trying to increase brand awareness? Generate leads? Drive sales? Once you know your goals, you can tailor your requests to be more relevant to the customer.
  • Make it easy for customers to say no. If a customer doesn’t want to do something, they should be able to say no without feeling guilty. Make sure your requests are easy to decline and don’t make it seem like the customer is missing out on something if they don’t comply.
  • Offer something in return. If you’re asking a customer to do something for you, offer them something in return. This could be a discount, a free gift, or early access to new products or services. By offering something of value, you’re more likely to get the customer’s cooperation.

By following these suggestions, you can improve your customer engagement strategies and get more customers to do what you want.

In addition to the above, here are some other ways that startups can improve their customer engagement strategies:

  • Listen to your customers. What do they want and need? What are their pain points? The best way to find out is to ask them. You can do this through surveys, interviews, or social media.
  • Be personal. Customers want to feel like they’re more than just a number. They want to feel like you understand them and their needs. Use personalization to make your interactions with customers more meaningful.
  • Be helpful. Your goal should be to help customers solve their problems. If you can do that, they’ll be more likely to do business with you.
  • Be consistent. Customers want to know what to expect from you. If you’re inconsistent in your communication or your customer service, they’ll be less likely to do business with you.

By following these tips, if you’re a startup that is trying to improve its customer engagement strategies and build stronger relationships with its customers.
